On February 15, 2024, eleven-year-old Audrii Cunningham did not arrive at her school in Livingston, Texas. She was supposed to be dropped off by Don Steven McDougal, 42, a family friend who lived on the family's property.
McDougal initially told investigators he had dropped Audrii at school. Phone and GPS data contradicted his account.
Audrii's body was found on February 20 in the Trinity River near a bridge south of Livingston. She had been killed by blunt force trauma.
McDougal was arrested and charged with capital murder of a child. The case highlighted the dangers children face from trusted adults in their lives.
