Constance Marten & Mark Gordon
Constance Marten and Mark Gordon went on the run across England after their newborn baby died. The baby's body was found in a bag in Brighton. Both were convicted of manslaughter by gross negligence.
In January 2023, aristocrat Constance Marten and her partner Mark Gordon went on the run across England. Marten had given birth in the back of a car and the couple avoided hospitals and authorities.
Their car was found abandoned and on fire on the M61 motorway. A nationwide manhunt followed as police grew increasingly concerned for the welfare of the newborn.
On February 28, 2023, Marten and Gordon were found on a park bench in Brighton. They did not have the baby. Police discovered the remains of baby Victoria in a bag in a shed nearby.
Both were convicted of manslaughter by gross negligence. Gordon was also convicted of perverting the course of justice. The baby had died from cold exposure within hours of birth.
