Fred and Rose West murdered at least 12 young women and girls between 1967 and 1987, burying most under the patio, cellar, and garden of their home at 25 Cromwell Street in Gloucester—a house that became known as the 'House of Horrors.'
Victims included their own daughter Heather, lodgers, and young women they picked up. The Wests sexually assaulted and tortured their victims before killing them.
Police excavated the property in February 1994 after a concerned social worker's report about a missing Heather. They eventually found the remains of nine women.
Fred West hanged himself in prison on January 1, 1995, before his trial. Rose West was convicted of 10 murders in November 1995 and sentenced to life imprisonment. 25 Cromwell Street was demolished in 1996.
