On June 18, 2018, rapper XXXTentacion (Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy), 20, was shot and killed outside RIVA Motorsports in Deerfield Beach, Florida. He was blocked in the parking lot by two suspects in an SUV.
The attackers demanded the Louis Vuitton bag containing $50,000 that XXXTentacion had withdrawn from a bank shortly before. He was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at a hospital.
Four men were arrested and charged: Michael Boatwright, Dedrick Williams, Trayvon Newsome, and Robert Allen. Allen cooperated with prosecutors.
In 2024, Boatwright was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life. Williams and Newsome pleaded guilty to lesser charges. The case highlighted the dangers facing young, wealthy rap artists.
