On April 30, 2007, thirty-seven-year-old Lisa Stebic was last seen at her home in Plainfield, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. She and her husband Craig were in the midst of a bitter divorce and custody battle, and she had filed for an order of protection against him.
Lisa was reported missing by her family on May 1. Craig, who was still living in the marital home, told police he last saw Lisa when she came home from work that evening. He refused to allow police to search the home without a warrant.
Craig Stebic obtained custody of the couple's two children and has consistently refused to cooperate with the investigation. He has been named a person of interest but has never been charged.
Lisa Stebic has never been found. A civil wrongful death lawsuit filed by her family against Craig was dismissed. The case remains open with the Will County Sheriff's Office.
