Sixteen-year-old Karlie Gusé vanished from her family's home in rural Chalfant Valley, California after experiencing a bad reaction to marijuana. She was seen walking on the highway at dawn.

On October 12, 2018, sixteen-year-old Karlie Gusé returned home to Chalfant Valley, a remote community in eastern California near the Nevada border, visibly distressed after attending a party where she had consumed marijuana and possibly another substance.

Her stepmother Melissa Gusé reported that Karlie was extremely anxious and paranoid throughout the night, repeatedly saying that someone was after her and trying to leave the house. Melissa stayed up with Karlie until falling asleep around 5:45 a.m.

When Melissa woke shortly after, Karlie was gone. Two witnesses reported seeing a girl matching Karlie's description walking along Highway 6 near the family's home around 7 a.m. She was walking quickly and appeared to be heading toward the open desert.

Despite extensive searches of the surrounding desert and mountain terrain by multiple agencies, no trace of Karlie has been found. The area is vast, remote, and includes abandoned mine shafts and harsh terrain. Her case remains open.
