On August 4, 2019, at 1:05 a.m., 24-year-old Connor Betts opened fire with an AR-15 style pistol in the Oregon District entertainment area of Dayton, Ohio. In just 32 seconds, he killed nine people and wounded 17 others.

Among the dead was Betts's own sister, Megan Betts, 22. It remains unclear whether she was specifically targeted or killed in the indiscriminate shooting.

Police officers who were already stationed in the area responded immediately, shooting and killing Betts within 32 seconds. Investigators noted he carried 100-round drum magazines and could have killed far more.

Investigation revealed Betts had a history of violent ideation, including a 'hit list' and 'rape list' he created in high school. No clear political motive was established.
