Twenty-one-year-old Katelyn Markham vanished from her Fairfield, Ohio home. Her fiancé John Carter confessed to killing her in 2022 after her remains were found.

On August 13, 2011, twenty-one-year-old Katelyn Markham, a talented artist, was last seen at her home in Fairfield, Ohio by her fiancé John Carter. He reported her missing the next morning when she failed to answer texts.

The investigation stalled for years. Carter maintained his innocence and participated in public searches and vigils for Katelyn.

In April 2022, Katelyn's skeletal remains were found in a wooded area of Cedar Grove, Indiana, about 25 miles from Fairfield. John Carter was arrested and charged with aggravated murder.

Carter pleaded guilty to murder and abuse of a corpse in 2023 and was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.
