Corrections officer Vicky White helped murder suspect Casey White escape from an Alabama jail. They were fugitives for 11 days before being caught in Indiana. Vicky died from a self-inflicted gunshot.

On April 29, 2022, Lauderdale County Assistant Director of Corrections Vicky White, 56, staged an escape for murder suspect Casey White, 38 (no relation), from the county jail in Florence, Alabama. She told colleagues she was taking Casey to a mental health evaluation that didn't exist.

Vicky had secretly been in a romantic relationship with Casey, who was awaiting trial for capital murder. She sold her home, bought a getaway car, and planned the escape meticulously. She submitted her retirement paperwork the day of the escape.

A nationwide manhunt ensued for 11 days. The fugitives were tracked to Evansville, Indiana, where U.S. Marshals located them at a motel. During the pursuit, Vicky shot herself in the head. She died from her injuries.

Casey White was recaptured and returned to Alabama, where he was convicted of the original capital murder charge and the escape. He was sentenced to life without parole.
