Mary, Bobby & Brittney Fisher
Robert William Fisher allegedly murdered his wife and two children, then blew up their Scottsdale home. He was placed on the FBI Ten Most Wanted list in 2002 and has never been found, making him one of America's longest-sought fugitives.
In the early morning hours of April 10, 2001, a massive explosion destroyed the home of the Fisher family in a quiet Scottsdale, Arizona neighborhood. Firefighters responding to the blaze discovered the bodies of Mary Fisher (38) and the couple's two children, Bobby (10) and Brittney (12), inside the wreckage. Mary had been shot in the back of the head, and both children had their throats slashed. The fire and explosion had been set deliberately using natural gas to destroy evidence.
Robert William Fisher, 40, a firefighter and respiratory therapist, was immediately identified as the primary suspect. His vehicle was missing, and he had not been seen since the night before the explosion. Investigation revealed a troubled marriage: Mary had reportedly told friends she was considering divorce, and Fisher, raised in a strict religious household, had allegedly told friends he would rather kill his family than endure a divorce.
Fisher's SUV was found abandoned five days later at the Tonto National Forest, northeast of Phoenix. His dog was inside, alive, but there was no sign of Fisher. Despite one of the most extensive manhunts in Arizona history—involving FBI, U.S. Marshals, and local agencies searching vast wilderness areas—Fisher was never found. In June 2002, he was placed on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list.
Over the years, tips have come in from across the United States and internationally. Several individuals have been mistakenly identified as Fisher, but none proved to be him. Some investigators believe he may have perished in the rugged wilderness of the Tonto Forest, while others think he escaped and assumed a new identity. His case remains active, with the FBI continuing to seek information about his whereabouts.
