Elderly Milan resident Emanuela Zuccala was murdered by serial killer Leonardo Cazzaniga, a doctor who killed patients with lethal drug cocktails. He murdered at least 12 patients.
Leonardo Cazzaniga was an emergency room doctor at Saronno Hospital near Milan, Italy, who murdered at least 12 patients between 2012 and 2014 by administering lethal doses of potassium chloride and other drugs.
The murders were discovered when his lover, nurse Laura Taroni, was arrested for the murder of her husband and mother. During interrogation, she revealed that Cazzaniga had been killing patients and that they had worked together to murder her family members.
Cazzaniga was found to have murdered patients who he deemed 'lost causes' or who annoyed him. He also killed the father and ex-husband of his lover Taroni to facilitate their relationship.
Cazzaniga was convicted of 12 murders in 2019 and sentenced to life in prison. Taroni was convicted of murdering her husband and mother with Cazzaniga's help.
