On August 17, 2016, twenty-three-year-old Cieha Taylor left a friend's home in Gary, Indiana, in the early morning hours and was never seen again. She told her friend she was going to meet someone.
Cieha's car was found abandoned in a Gary neighborhood a few days later. Her cell phone went to voicemail. Her family immediately reported her missing, but the case received little media coverage.
The Gary Police Department investigated but made no arrests. The case has been highlighted by the Black and Missing Foundation as an example of the media disparity in coverage of missing Black women.
