Suzanne Morphew (Barry trial)
Barry Morphew was initially charged with the murder of his wife Suzanne, but charges were dropped in 2022 due to lost evidence. Suzanne's remains were found in 2023 and new charges were filed.
On Mother's Day 2020, Suzanne Morphew, 49, vanished from her home near Salida, Colorado. Her husband Barry said he was away on a work trip. Suzanne's bicycle was found near the home.
Barry Morphew was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in May 2021. However, in April 2022, prosecutors unexpectedly dropped all charges citing discovery violations and lost evidence.
In September 2023, Suzanne's remains were found in a remote area of Chaffee County. Barry was charged again with first-degree murder based on new evidence, including DNA and physical evidence from the remains site.
Barry Morphew pleaded guilty to lesser charges in 2024 to avoid a potential death sentence.
