Gannon Stauch (Letecia trial)
Letecia Stauch murdered her 11-year-old stepson Gannon in Colorado Springs and transported his body to Florida. She was found guilty but not guilty by reason of insanity and committed to a state institution.
On January 27, 2020, eleven-year-old Gannon Stauch disappeared from his home in the Lorson Ranch neighborhood of Colorado Springs. His stepmother Letecia reported him as a runaway.
Evidence quickly pointed to Letecia. Surveillance footage, blood evidence in the home, and her suspicious behavior contradicted her claims. Gannon's father Al was deployed with the military at the time.
Gannon's remains were found in a suitcase under a bridge in Pace, Florida in March 2020. Letecia had driven across the country disposing of evidence.
Letecia Stauch was found not guilty by reason of insanity in 2023. The court determined she suffered from a mental illness that prevented her from understanding the nature of her actions. She was committed to a state psychiatric institution.
