On February 23, 2020, Sarah Boone called 911 to report that her boyfriend Jorge Torres Jr., 42, was dead inside a suitcase in their Winter Park, Florida apartment. She claimed they had been playing hide-and-seek while drinking and she had fallen asleep.
Police found videos on Boone's phone that told a different story. In the recordings, Torres can be heard begging to be let out, saying he couldn't breathe. Boone is heard laughing and taunting him.
The medical examiner determined Torres died of suffocation. His death was ruled a homicide.
Boone was charged with second-degree murder. The case was delayed extensively as she cycled through multiple attorneys. She was convicted in 2024 and sentenced to life in prison.
