Missy Bevers
Fitness instructor Missy Bevers was murdered inside a church before an early morning fitness class. Security cameras captured her killer walking through the church dressed in police tactical gear, but the suspect has never been identified despite the clear footage.
In the early morning hours of April 18, 2016, security cameras inside the Creekside Church of Christ in Midlothian, Texas captured a person walking through the building wearing full police-style tactical gear, including a helmet with face shield, vest, and gloves. The individual was methodically breaking into rooms and opening doors throughout the church, apparently lying in wait.
Terri 'Missy' Bevers, a 45-year-old fitness instructor and mother of three, arrived at the church at approximately 4:20 a.m. to set up for her 5:00 a.m. Camp Gladiator fitness class, which was held in the church's gymnasium. She encountered the person in tactical gear and was murdered. When students arrived for the class, they found Missy's body inside the church.
The security footage, which clearly showed the suspect walking through the church for approximately 30 minutes before the murder, became one of the most widely circulated pieces of evidence in modern true crime. Despite the clarity of the footage, the suspect's face was completely concealed by the tactical helmet. Viewers and investigators analyzed the suspect's build, gait, and movements, with some suggesting the person may have been female based on body proportions and walking style.
The Midlothian Police Department investigated extensively, following thousands of tips and examining Missy's personal and professional relationships. The tactical gear worn by the suspect—which appeared to be generic equipment purchasable online rather than actual law enforcement equipment—was a key focus. Despite the wealth of video evidence and intense public interest, the person in the tactical gear has never been identified. The case remains one of the most distinctive unsolved murders in recent Texas history.
