On September 9, 1999, thirty-six-year-old Girly Chew Hossencofft, a Malaysian-born woman, disappeared from her apartment in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was in the process of divorcing her husband, Diazien Hossencofft, who claimed to be a government scientist with extraterrestrial DNA.
Blood matching Girly's was found in a nearby arroyo, but her body was never recovered. The investigation revealed that Diazien had enlisted his girlfriend, Linda Henning, to help murder Girly. Diazien had been telling followers he was a genius scientist conducting alien research.
Diazien Hossencofft was convicted of murder and kidnapping and sentenced to life in prison plus 36 years. Linda Henning was also convicted of kidnapping and tampering with evidence and sentenced to 73 years.
The case was notable for its bizarre cast of characters, including followers who believed Diazien's claims about alien DNA and government conspiracies.
