Egyptian-born taxi driver Yaser Said murdered his daughters Amina (18) and Sarah (17) in an honor killing in Irving, Texas. He fled and was captured 12 years later.

On January 1, 2008, eighteen-year-old Amina Said and seventeen-year-old Sarah Said were shot and killed by their father, Egyptian-born taxi driver Yaser Abdel Said, in his taxi cab in the parking lot of an Irving, Texas hotel. Sarah managed to call 911 before dying, crying 'My dad shot me.'

Said had been abusive and controlling toward his daughters for years. When they began dating non-Muslim boys, he considered it a violation of his honor. Their mother, Patricia Owens, had tried to flee with the girls days before but was convinced to return.

Yaser Said fled after the murders and was placed on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list in 2014. He evaded capture for over 12 years, hiding in plain sight in the Dallas-Fort Worth area with the help of his son Islam and brother Yassein.

Said was arrested in August 2020 and convicted of capital murder in August 2022. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole. His son Islam and brother Yassein were convicted of harboring a fugitive.
