Four-year-old Cleo Smith vanished from her family's tent at the Blowholes campsite near Carnarvon, Western Australia on October 16, 2021. The tent zipper was open to a height she couldn't reach.
A massive search and investigation followed. Western Australia Police offered a $1 million reward. The case gripped Australia for 18 days.
On November 3, 2021, police broke into a locked house in Carnarvon and found Cleo alive and well. She said 'My name is Cleo' when officers entered.
Terence Darrell Kelly, 36, was arrested at the scene. He had taken Cleo and was playing with her and buying her toys. He pleaded guilty to child stealing and was sentenced to 13 years and 6 months.
