Gilgo Beach (additional victims)
Rex Heuermann was charged with additional Gilgo Beach murders as DNA evidence continued to mount. The investigation expanded to potentially 10+ victims.
In January 2024, Rex Heuermann was charged with two additional Gilgo Beach murders beyond the initial four charges from July 2023, bringing the total to six murder counts. The victims were Jessica Taylor and Sandra Costilla.
The investigation continued to uncover evidence connecting Heuermann to additional victims. Investigators used genealogical DNA, digital evidence, and Heuermann's own cell phone and internet history to build their case.
Evidence showed Heuermann had used burner phones to contact victims and had researched methods of avoiding detection. His wife and daughters were reportedly unaware of his activities.
The case continued to expand in 2024, with investigators examining whether Heuermann may be responsible for additional unsolved homicides along Long Island's barrier beaches. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
