Anthonette Cayedito
Ten-year-old Anthonette Cayedito was abducted from her Gallup, New Mexico home after a knock at the door late at night. Her younger sister witnessed the abduction. Years later, a girl believed to be Anthonette called 911 but was cut off. She was never found.
In the early morning hours of April 6, 1986, someone knocked on the door of the Cayedito family home in Gallup, New Mexico. Ten-year-old Anthonette Christine Cayedito answered the door while her mother, Penny, was asleep. Anthonette's younger sister, Wendy, witnessed two men grab Anthonette and carry her away as she screamed and kicked. Wendy was too frightened to wake her mother immediately.
When Penny Cayedito learned of the abduction, she contacted police, but there were significant delays. The investigation was complicated by the lack of immediate evidence and the remote nature of Gallup, a city in western New Mexico near the Navajo Nation. Searches of the area produced no leads.
In 1991, a girl called 911 from a restaurant in Carson City, Nevada. She said 'I'm Anthonette Cayedito from New Mexico, I need help.' The call was cut off, and when police responded to the restaurant, no one matching the description was found. The call was believed to be genuine based on voice analysis, but the lead went cold.
Anthonette's mother Penny came under scrutiny from investigators, with some theorizing she may have been involved in or had knowledge of the abduction. However, no charges were ever filed against her, and the case remains officially unsolved. Anthonette Cayedito has never been found.
