Alex Batty (found)
British teenager Alex Batty was found in the French Pyrenees after being missing for six years. His mother and grandfather had taken him to Morocco and then a hippie commune in France.
Alex Batty from Oldham, Greater Manchester was 11 years old when his mother Melanie and grandfather David took him on what was supposed to be a short holiday to Spain in October 2017. They never returned.
Instead, they took Alex to Morocco and then to a hippie commune in the French Pyrenees, where they lived off the grid. Alex's grandmother in the UK reported them missing.
On December 13, 2023, Alex, now 17, approached a delivery driver on a remote mountain road near Revel in southern France. He explained who he was and that he wanted to go home.
Alex was returned to the UK and placed in the care of his grandmother. He had not attended school in six years. His mother and grandfather face charges of child abduction.
