Mallory Beach was killed when Paul Murdaugh crashed a boat while drunk in Beaufort County, South Carolina. Paul was charged with BUI resulting in death but was murdered before trial.
On February 24, 2019, Paul Murdaugh, 19, crashed a boat into a bridge piling in Archer's Creek near Parris Island, South Carolina. Six passengers were thrown into the dark, cold water. Mallory Beach, 19, was killed—her body found seven days later.
Paul was severely intoxicated at the time and had been operating the boat recklessly at high speed. Witnesses said he was belligerent and aggressive before the crash.
The Murdaugh family's legal influence in the Lowcountry allegedly led to preferential treatment during the investigation. A Highway Patrol officer attempted to obtain blood from a different passenger instead of Paul.
Paul was charged with boating under the influence resulting in death and great bodily injury, but was murdered alongside his mother Maggie on June 7, 2021, before his trial could take place.
