Lori Hacking
Lori Hacking was murdered by her husband Mark after she discovered he had lied about being accepted to medical school. He disposed of her body in a dumpster.
On July 19, 2004, Mark Hacking reported his wife Lori, 27, missing in Salt Lake City, claiming she had failed to return from a morning jog in Memory Grove Park. A massive search was launched, but the investigation quickly turned to Mark when his elaborate web of lies unraveled.
Investigators discovered Mark had not been accepted to medical school at the University of North Carolina as he claimed. In fact, he had never graduated from the University of Utah. He had been fabricating his academic career for years, and Lori had recently discovered the deception.
The night before reporting Lori missing, Mark had shot her in the head while she slept and disposed of her body in a dumpster at his workplace. Her remains were found in a landfill in October 2004.
Mark Hacking pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in 2005 and was sentenced to six years to life in prison.
