Idaho Student Murders
Four University of Idaho students were stabbed to death in their off-campus home in Moscow, Idaho. Bryan Kohberger, a criminology PhD student, was charged with their murders.
In the early morning hours of November 13, 2022, four University of Idaho students were stabbed to death in their off-campus rental home at 1122 King Road in Moscow, Idaho. The victims were Kaylee Goncalves (21), Madison Mogen (21), Xana Kernodle (20), and Ethan Chapin (20).
Two other roommates were home at the time but were unharmed and did not realize what had happened until later that morning. The attack appeared targeted, though all four victims were killed.
Six weeks later, on December 30, 2022, Bryan Kohberger, a 28-year-old PhD student in criminology at Washington State University (located just 8 miles away), was arrested in Pennsylvania. He was linked through DNA evidence found on a knife sheath left at the scene and cell phone location data.
Kohberger was charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary. His trial is scheduled for 2025. The case generated intense social media speculation and raised questions about online sleuthing.
