Dorothy Jane Scott
Dorothy Jane Scott disappeared from a hospital parking lot in Anaheim, California. An unknown stalker had been harassing her for months before her disappearance and continued calling her mother afterward.
On the evening of May 28, 1980, thirty-two-year-old Dorothy Jane Scott drove a coworker to the UCI Medical Center in Anaheim after he was bitten by a black widow spider. While waiting in the parking lot for the coworker to be treated, she went to bring her car around. Witnesses saw her car speeding out of the parking lot with its headlights off. Dorothy was never seen alive again.
In the months before her disappearance, Dorothy had been receiving threatening phone calls from an unknown man who appeared to know her daily movements, clothing choices, and whereabouts. Despite reporting the harassment, police were unable to identify the caller.
After Dorothy vanished, the calls continued—now directed at her mother, Vera Scott. The caller alternated between declaring his love for Dorothy and claiming he had killed her. The calls continued for years.
In August 1984, Dorothy's skeletal remains were found in a shallow grave near a rural road in Riverside County. The cause of death could not be determined. Despite DNA evidence collected at the scene, the case remains unsolved.
