Dena had been stabbed multiple times. Despite hundreds of witnesses being in the area at the time, no one reported seeing the attack.

Staffordshire Police launched a massive investigation, interviewing thousands of people and conducting extensive forensic analysis. DNA evidence was recovered but has not led to a match.
