On June 15, 2021, five-year-old Summer Moon-Utah Wells was last seen playing in the yard of her family's rural property in the Ben Hill community of Hawkins County, Tennessee. Her mother reported that Summer had been planting flowers in the yard before she vanished.
An immediate search of the heavily wooded, mountainous terrain surrounding the property was launched. Hundreds of searchers, including TBI agents, FBI, and volunteer teams, combed the area for weeks.
The case has been complicated by conflicting statements from family members and the family's distrust of law enforcement. Summer's parents have been named as persons of interest but not charged.
Summer Wells has never been found. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation continues to follow leads, and the case remains one of the state's most active missing child investigations.
