Twenty-five-year-old Shanquella Robinson died on a group trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Video showed her being beaten by a friend. Her death was ruled homicide but no extradition has occurred.
On October 29, 2022, twenty-five-year-old Shanquella Robinson of Charlotte, North Carolina died while on a vacation trip with friends in San José del Cabo, Mexico. Her companions initially told her mother she had died of alcohol poisoning.
Video emerged showing Shanquella being brutally beaten by one of her friends in the vacation rental. The Mexican autopsy determined her cause of death was severe spinal cord injury and atlas luxation—consistent with a violent beating.
Mexican authorities issued an arrest warrant for one of Shanquella's travel companions, but as of 2024, no extradition has been carried out by the United States.
The case highlighted jurisdictional complications in international homicide cases and raised questions about accountability when Americans are killed abroad by other Americans.
