Leigh Marine Occhi
Thirteen-year-old Leigh Occhi vanished from her Tupelo, Mississippi home on a school morning. Blood evidence and a broken window suggested an intruder, but no suspect was ever identified and Leigh was never found.
On the morning of October 15, 1992, 13-year-old Leigh Marine Occhi was home alone at her family's residence in Tupelo, Mississippi, preparing for school. Her mother, Vickie Occhi, had left for work at approximately 7:15 a.m. When Leigh did not arrive at school, her mother returned home around noon to find bloodstains throughout the house, a broken rear window, and no sign of her daughter.
The scene suggested a violent encounter. Blood was found in Leigh's bedroom, the bathroom, the hallway, and on a mattress. A rear window had been broken from the outside, suggesting forced entry. Leigh's nightgown was found on her bed, and her school clothes appeared to have been partially put on. Her bicycle was still at the home, and nothing appeared to have been stolen.
Investigators pursued numerous leads but were unable to identify a suspect. The blood at the scene was confirmed to be Leigh's. No witnesses reported seeing anything unusual in the neighborhood that morning. The case was featured on Unsolved Mysteries and America's Most Wanted, generating tips but no breakthrough. Some investigators explored whether the perpetrator was someone known to the family, while others believed it was a stranger abduction.
Despite periodic cold case reviews and advances in DNA technology, Leigh Occhi has never been found and no one has been charged. The FBI has periodically assisted with the investigation. The case remains one of Mississippi's most haunting unsolved disappearances.
