Frederica Biggs

On the evening of December 11, 1975, 16-year-old Frederica 'Bunny' Biggs attended a square dance at the Main Street School in Saxtons River, a small village in southeastern Vermont. She left the dance at approximately 10:00 p.m. and was last seen walking along Route 121 toward her home about a mile away. She never arrived.

A search began immediately, with volunteers and police combing the roads, fields, and woods between the school and Biggs' home. No trace of her was found. It was not until April 1976 that her body was discovered in the Connecticut River, miles downstream from Saxtons River. Due to the condition of her remains after months in the water, the exact cause of death was difficult to determine.

Frederica's case has been linked by some investigators to a series of unsolved murders and disappearances along the Connecticut River Valley in Vermont and New Hampshire during the 1970s and 1980s, attributed to an unidentified serial killer known as the Connecticut River Valley Killer. Other victims potentially connected include Cathy Millican, Bernice Courtemanche, Ellen Fried, and Eva Morse.

No suspect has ever been charged in Frederica Biggs' death. The case remains open with the Vermont State Police. The possibility of a serial killer operating in the region has made it one of New England's most chilling unsolved mysteries.
