Twenty-one-month-old British toddler Ben Needham vanished on the Greek island of Kos. Police believe he may have been accidentally killed by a digger operator, but his remains have never been found.

On July 24, 1991, twenty-one-month-old Ben Needham, a British toddler, vanished from outside a farmhouse in the village of Iraklise on the Greek island of Kos. His family had moved to the island, and his grandparents were renovating a property. Ben was playing outside in the yard while his grandmother was inside.

When his family realized Ben was missing, a frantic search began. Greek police and local residents scoured the area, but no trace of the boy was found. The case became one of the UK's most prominent missing child investigations, with Ben's mother Kerry Needham launching a tireless campaign for answers.

For years, the primary theory was that Ben had been abducted, possibly sold to a childless family. However, in 2016, South Yorkshire Police announced they believed Ben may have been accidentally killed by a digger operator, Konstantinos 'Dino' Barkas, who was working near the farmhouse that day. Barkas had died in 2015, and police conducted an extensive excavation of the area near the farmhouse, finding items including blood-stained fabric, but no conclusive remains.

Despite the police belief that Ben died in an accident on the day he disappeared, no remains have been found and the case remains officially open. Kerry Needham has expressed skepticism about the accident theory and continues to hope her son is alive. The case has been the subject of multiple police investigations involving both British and Greek authorities.
