Deysi Garcia

On October 20, 2010, 28-year-old Deysi Garcia left her workplace in San Francisco's Mission District and vanished. She was a Honduran immigrant who worked in the food service industry and lived in the city. She had spoken to family members that day and gave no indication of plans to leave or any concerns for her safety.

When Deysi failed to return home, her family and community raised the alarm. The Mission District, a vibrant and densely populated neighborhood, was canvassed by police and volunteers. Flyers were distributed in both English and Spanish throughout the area. Her case gained attention from immigrant advocacy groups who highlighted the vulnerability of undocumented workers.

Investigators explored theories including foul play, voluntary disappearance, and the possibility that immigration concerns might have prevented witnesses from coming forward. Deysi's bank accounts showed no activity after her disappearance, and her phone went silent.
