Danielle Imbo, 34, and Richard Petrone Jr., 35, a dating couple, vanished after leaving a bar on South Street in Philadelphia on the night of February 19, 2005. Neither they nor Petrone's pickup truck have ever been found. The FBI has investigated the case as a possible murder-for-hire but has never named a suspect.

Danielle Imbo, born August 7, 1970, was a 34-year-old mortgage loan processor from Mount Laurel, New Jersey, and the mother of a young son. Richard "Rich" Petrone Jr., born August 29, 1969, was a 35-year-old Philadelphia man who worked at his family's bakery and had a teenage daughter. The two had been friends from South Jersey and were dating on and off in early 2005, as Danielle was going through a separation from her husband. Friends described them as ordinary, hardworking people with no obvious enemies and no connection to organized crime, which is part of what has made their sudden and complete vanishing so baffling.

On the night of February 19, 2005, the couple attended an informal gathering with friends at Abilene's, a bar and restaurant at 429 South Street in Philadelphia. Witnesses said they left around 11:45 p.m., heading toward Petrone's black 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup truck, intending to drive to Imbo's home in New Jersey. That was the last confirmed sighting of either of them. When neither returned home or answered their phones, family members reported them missing the following day. Crucially, from that night forward there was no activity on their cell phones, bank accounts, or credit cards, and the pickup truck simply disappeared along with them, an unusual detail given the difficulty of concealing a full-size vehicle.

The investigation grew into one of the region's most enduring mysteries, involving the Philadelphia Police Department, the New Jersey State Police, and eventually the FBI, which took a lead role beginning in 2008 and pursued the case as a possible murder-for-hire. Investigators explored numerous theories, including debts, jealousy, and intimidation, but none could be substantiated, and no crime scene was ever located. The FBI has publicly stated that it believes people know what happened, and it has offered a reward of up to $15,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Despite promising leads over the years, no suspect has ever been publicly named or charged.

For the victims' families, the absence of any physical evidence has meant two decades without closure. Petrone's mother never held a funeral, and Imbo's brother has spoken repeatedly about the anguish of not knowing. In February 2025, marking the twentieth anniversary of the disappearance, the FBI's Philadelphia field office renewed its public appeal for information, emphasizing that the case remains open and active. Retired agents involved in the investigation have acknowledged the frustration of a case with no bodies, no vehicle, and no real physical evidence to work from. The complete absence of the truck, in particular, has long puzzled investigators, since disposing of a full-size pickup without a trace suggests planning and resources beyond a random act of violence. The couple has never been found, and their disappearance remains unsolved, sustained by the enduring belief of investigators that someone in the Philadelphia and South Jersey community still holds the key to what happened that night.
